"How We Built Our Businesses" - An Investor Panel
This panel of investors come from a variety of investing backgrounds that may interest you:
- Buying mobile home parks
- Flipping houses
- Building a portfolio of apartments
The great thing about real estate is you can adjust, pivot, and find an investing product that works for you. Even within a specific product type, there are many ways to make it work.
Be ready to hear about their experiences, challenges faced, what their current focus is, and a open Q/A.
Panelists: Mike Higgins, Blaine Ott, Dustin Wiskes
Mike Higgins
Mike Higgins is a recovering realtor turned investor. He was been in the real estate industry since 2015 and pivoted his focus to his residential fix and flip the company while actively pursuing storage facilities and mobile home parks to buy and hold.
He's a proud Front Row Dad to 4 kids, married 11 years to his amazing wife April and lives in the great state of Wisconsin.
Blaine Ott
Blaine is a forward thinking business professional. Throughout his career he has worked for companies ranging in size from boutique private equity to Fortune 500 in the printing and packaging markets.
Since 2005 Blaine has been involved in real estate in various forms. From 2005-2011 his business was driven by fixing and flipping residential properties from the MLS and sheriff sales. From 2011 to current the goal of his real estate business has been buy and hold growth through residential value add properties. His current portfolio consists of residential, retail, office, and industrial properties.
Blaine also has an Operations Management degree from UW Oshkosh as well as a MBA in Management from Concordia University.
Dustin Wiskes
I started investing in real estate in 2017 when my wife and I house-hacked a duplex in De Pere. We built up a small portfolio of rentals in the area before making the jump to mobile home park investing in 2021.
We now own four communities across Wisconsin (about 100 pads) and manage them all remotely from home. I still work full time as an engineer for a local paper company, while my wife raises our 3 young girls.
Our goal is to continue buying more MHPs until I can step back from my W2 job and focus full time on real estate and traveling as a family.

This led Geoff to step away from real estate for a number of years until he discovered WiscoREIA in 2018 where he finally was able to acquire the knowledge and network that was necessary to be successful in real estate investing. His goal is to use REI as a means to retire early from engineering.
Geoff currently invests in single-family and small multi-family properties that he operates as traditional rentals as well as short term furnished rentals. In his free time Geoff enjoys camping with his family, playing golf, snowboarding, hunting, and good beer.

In 2022, Andy “Retired” from the “9 to 5” to enjoy financial freedom and continue to grow his investment portfolio and businesses. Andy and his wife own a local full-service real estate brokerage and a property management company.

He spends his free time pistol shooting and kayaking and lives in Lafayette, Indiana where he and his wife Jennifer are raising their two sons, Leland and Logan.
Audrey Borcherding
Our little crew has grown so much since we started in real estate back in 2008! We have grown our portfolio, our experience, and our family! It all started with the purchase of a 4 plex through a short sale, which we renovated while living in. Our goal was to purchase a property or two each year until ‘retirement’ age. Instead, we’ve purchased several hundred units valued at over $16 million dollars, started a full-service residential brokerage, flipped dozens of houses, started an education company, and had 3 beautiful children along the way.
There have been so many lessons learned on our journey! We put in long hours on renovations, property management, business management, and did ‘all the things’ on our own for many years. As we grew, we realized the best choice was to hire fantastic third-party management and create systems to give us more time. That time is used to focus on providing exceptional solutions for property owners who want to sell and investors who want to get involved in what we do. We are also excited to offer educational platforms targeted at helping people get started in multifamily investing and to uncover their visions for life and business!
We are passionate about continued growth personally, professionally, and for our students and clients! We look forward to connecting with you!
Mike Morawski
Topic: Using Multifamily Real Estate to Build Generational Wealth
Mike is a 30 plus year real estate investment veteran. He has controlled over $285,000,000 in real estate transactions. Mike is an entrepreneur, author, real estate trainer, public speaker, and personal coach, with strong personal resilience and a deep desire to help others live an extraordinary life. He has coached hundreds of real estate investors to fulfill their dreams.
Michael began as a general contractor in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago with $5 mm in annual revenue. He sold his company and then took some time off to decide what to do next. Michael entered the real estate industry as a sales agent building a team of agents and support staff that produced over $20 mm per year in sales production.
In 2005, Michael started a private equity firm, raising $18 mm in private equity and acquired $60 mm in multi-family apartments including 4,000 units in five different US markets. As part of the company’s growth, Mike built and developed a property management division that managed 7,500 units.
Mike has always believed that transparency and honesty are central to any successful business and personal life. As a result of the 2008 world economic crisis, Mike let his guard down and let his transparency slip. The impact that had on his company and its real estate holdings left him scrambling to protect the company and its investors.
This meeting will be at Metropolis Resort. Please enjoy food, drinks, and TIP YOUR SERVERS!
